Spruce it up with Accent Decor
If your shelves seem boring with just endless rows of books or clutter, don't fret there are few things you can do about it.
Shelves do provide nice storage, but they can also be decorative. Why have shelves for just books, or have them just for a "catch all" to store items that are disorganized? Create a storage space that is organized and decorative!

A good decorative shelving ideas is to start by organizing the items that you will need for storing. If you are storing books, begin by having rows of books which are upright, but do not take the row of books across the entire shelf.
Choose a stopping point, and fill the rest of the space with a decorative item, such as a basket, vase, or decorative box. These decorative items can also be used as added storage for smaller items that can be hidden away! You can even stack your books and place a decorative piece on the top.
If the shelves are used for storage in your bathroom, fill only some of the shelf, or shelves with necessary items such as towels. Then group together things such as soaps and toiletries on the rest of the shelving. Small storage items such as baskets or boxes are great to add for decor in the bathroom. There are many small items we use everyday in our bathrooms that need to be hiden away or organized, such as Q-tips or make up.
Another idea to add decor to your shelving are framed photos. Photos grouped together with various sizes really adds a nice touch to your shelf. One or two frames, depending on size, can also be used to fill the empty space after your "stopping points". They also look nice sitting on top of books that are stacked. You can also add candles or plants to your shelves for added decor and color.
You will find by using these decorative shelving ideas, your shelves won't be boring anymore. They will look great and still provide plenty of needed storage!
